Web 2.Oh no
Legitimate or another bubble?

WWW • January 18, 2006

I'm not an expert on Web 2.0. So, I did some research and came across some interesting articles. Some talking about how Web 2.0 is helping to improve the web and some comparing Web 2.0 to the "dot-com" bubble - which later popped, of course.

Like all plans that sound good at first, Web 2.0's success will depend on who buys in (Google, Microsoft - please build a standards compliant browser, open source community, etc.) and how they manage it. However, when all is said and done, it will be the everyday web surfer that decides what works and what doesn't.

The web seems to go from simple, to overload, then back again. With each cycle comes a new technology that all the players grab for and, many times, over-kill. The trick, no matter what the project, is knowing when to use the right technology. Do you use AJAX just to use it? Is it really a useful part of your site that will make it easier for your visitors to find what they are looking for? Hey, I've done that many times and will probably do it again.

What was I talking about?

Oh, yeah. Web 2.0. Check it out and decide for yourself. Here are a couple of articles to get you started:
